With the recent release of Amy Clarkin’s new sequel of her paranormal series, Who Watches This Place, I thought it would be a good time to post my review of the first book of the series, What Walks These Halls.

This is a fun and eerie book about a group of college-aged adults who set up a company to investigate the paranormal.

A character driven story where each protagonist has an interesting background and personality, Clarkin constructs an engaging book where the story behind both plot and characters are equally as interesting.

When the PSI (Paranormal Surveyance Ireland) take on a job to investigate a haunted house, siblings Archer and Raven must face an evil spirit. You discover throughout the book that each character has a connection to the house, which unveils something new about the spirit they’re hunting.

There’s also an intriguing mystery around Archer and Raven’s relationship, and though they were close growing up, there is a notable void between them at the beginning of the book. The reasons for this are slowly revealed throughout the story.

My favourite character is Éabha, who I think has the most satisfying character arc, but the other characters are interesting too.

Definitely recommend reading at Halloween.

I’m looking forward to reading the sequel (which is now added to my ever-growing to-read list).
