My new site will be a personal blog hosting articles about book reviews, events, writing, and my own stories, all within the sci-fi and fantasy genres. It will focus on the following target audiences:
- Readers of sci-fi, fantasy, and speculative fiction.
- Writers of sci-fi, fantasy, and speculative fiction.
- People who are interested comics of sci-fi, fantasy, and speculative fiction.
- People who are specifically interested in fantasy book reviews of Irish authors.
The domain name I have chosen is https://markkieltywriter.com/ and I can register it
for a cost of €13 per year.
I will take the Premium hosting package from wordpress.com at a cost of
€96 per year.
My site will have the following functionality:
- Tagged blog/articles.
- Embedded social media widgets.
- Images.
- Links to other sites where necessary.
- Access to GA4.
I will measure the success of my new site using the following KPIs:
- Number of visitors visiting the site when a blog post is published.
- Engagement rate of those reading blog articles.
- Comments and likes on articles.
What makes this business or organisation unique / special / different is:
- I’m a writer myself so I have a specific perspective when reviewing books.
- Whilst not exclusive, I focus on books and stories from Irish writers and creators.
- As I’m writing in a personal capacity rather for a company/organisation, I have the freedom to write in my own voice.
I will try to express this on the website by:
- Writing book reviews and articles in relation to sci-fi, fantasy and speculative genres.
- Writing articles about reading, writing, books, and events readers and writers of speculative fiction would be interested in.
- Promoting my own stories within in the aforementioned genres.
Three competitor sites are:
Of these I like https://www.kieran-obrien.com/ because I find it well branded, accessible, and easy to navigate.
The style of my site will be conversational, casual, and informative. Other sites that I perceive to be conversational, casual, and informative are https://geekireland.com/, https://www.swirlandthread.com/ and https://www.kieran-obrien.com/
For example, site https://www.kieran-obrien.com/, is conversational because Kieran sometimes talks about personal experiences within his reviews like the review for Knight of Gaelgara where he talks about his university experience studying creative writing.
